Upper Midwest Pagan Alliance

Veterans' Pentacle Rights Initiative

Plan for Action...
The Upper Midwest Pagan Alliance will present periodic events and maintain a consistent presence in our region acting to establish and secure religious rights and freedoms the constitution guarantees for all spiritual beliefs.

We will present public and private ceremony (ritual) aimed at focusing our spiritual community's and the public's attention on the outrage the Veterans' Pentacle Rights issue represents. The current situation of an essentially un-regulated, Federal Agency determining the validity of any spiritual beliefs, is unconscionable. We believe the public honoring of those veterans of our faith, in a spiritual way though ceremony, is an important part of bringing healing and resolution to our community. In our ceremony, we capture the intention for change the participants offer in a large, symbolic pentacle sculpture. This is then displayed in regional businesses to keep this reminder of the injustice ever present in our communities.

We also have begun collecting pentacle images in the Human Pentacle Images Project. Beginning with our initial event, February 24th, 2007 we, and other national groups, have begun assembling friends, allies, and the public into pentacle shaped human formations, and photographing them from above. By collecting, displaying and offering them to the press, we believe this project can help people to both see the inherent beauty in the symbol (stars are present in hundreds of national flags) and to present and keep the Veterans' Pentacle Rights Initiative in the public and government eye. With success we believe this can be a demonstration of the depth, distribution, and numbers this spiritual symbol is important to.

In conjunction with these types of activity, we aid and support traditional methods of effecting change such as governmental contact through phone, e-mail, and letters. We work with our community on projects both to improve our regional quality of life, and to educate regarding earth based pagan spiritual beliefs, often misunderstood.

Inter-faith Out Reach is an important aspect of the initiative. All faiths are essentially threatened when any religious right or freedom is lost. Joint efforts and understanding is the best solution to fear and discrimination.
